An evening with Chance Veazey brought a generous response for the Georgia baseball player who has stared adversity in the eye with a steadfast resolve that will enable him to enjoy life to the fullest.
The motor scooter accident on the Georgia campus that left him paralyzed from the waist down a few months ago has not dampened his spirits and will not defeat him.
He will find avenues of opportunity to enjoy life. The first thing you realize is that Veazey does not feel sorry for himself, which means he doesn't want you to feel sorry for him.
After the benefit for Veazey, he got on a bus and journeyed to Texas where he would be deer hunting for several days. The bus trip and the hunt were hosted by Ryan Klesko, the former Atlanta Braves slugger, who has befriended Veazey.
When he was released from the Sheppard Spinal Clinic in Atlanta late last fall, Veazey was invited by Klesko to hunt on his Jones County Farm.
Klesko, who has several parcels of hunting lands throughout the country, was overwhelmed when Veazey brought down one of the biggest bucks of the fall - an 11-pointer in mid-December.
If you know anything about deer hunting, you know that many people hunt most of their lives without ever killing a buck with a rack that big.
Veazey enjoyed himself so much that when he got another opportunity a few weeks later, he again met with success.
This time, he had an opportunity to hunt at a spot south of Tifton where he killed a 10-point buck - a reminder that not many seasoned deer hunters enjoy killing an 11-pointer and a 10-pointer in the space of just a few weeks.
There obviously is some skill in killing a deer, but hunting also
